Prop. 65 requires businesses to provide clear and reasonable warnings for consumer products that contain chemicals on the Prop. 65 list. These warnings are intended to help consumers make informed choices about the products they purchase. For more information about Prop. 65 warnings, please see California’s official Prop. 65 webpage, www.p65warnings.ca.gov.
Our products may contain trace amounts of chemicals that are subject to Prop. 65 warnings. For example, some of these chemicals are simply found in the soil that the herbs we use grow in. While these chemicals are present in small amounts that are unlikely to pose a health risk, we have provided Prop. 65 warnings on the products.
We understand that this warning may be concerning. Rest assured that testing is performed on all of our products to ensure that they are compliant. We are confident that our products meet or exceed required safety standards and we have taken all necessary steps to ensure that our products comply with applicable safety standards.
Please note that just because a product has a Prop. 65 warning on it, it does not mean the product is dangerous, will actually cause harm, or even that it contains a chemical on the Prop. 65 list. No Prop. 65 chemicals are intentionally added to our products.
If you have any questions or concerns about Prop. 65 or our products, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to providing our customers with safe and high-quality products.
Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a California law. It is a “right to know” law designed to inform consumers about potential exposures to chemicals that the State of California believes may cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm.
You may notice a “Prop 65” warning on our products. This is a “Right to Know” law required by the State of California; it is not a determination of product safety or a violation of federal law.
The Prop 65 list contains approximately 800-900 chemicals. While some are synthetic, others are naturally occurring substances found in the environment, such as in the soil where herbs and plants grow. None of these chemicals are intentionally added to our products.
“Right to Know” vs. Safety Ban: Prop 65 is a notification law, not a safety ban. It triggers warnings for “minimal potential exposures” that are often far below the levels considered dangerous by federal safety standards.
Thresholds: The warning requirement can be triggered by trace amounts that are unlikely to pose an actual health risk, whereas national standards generally focus on levels that would cause immediate or long-term harm.
All our products are tested and meet or exceed FDA safety standards. The Prop 65 warning is a legal requirement in California and does not indicate any product safety issues.
Warnings depend on whether a company tests for these specific trace chemicals and chooses to comply with California’s strict labeling laws. We label our products out of an abundance of caution and a commitment to transparency, even if the exposure levels are minimal.
We understand that this warning may be concerning. We are confident that our products meet or exceed required safety standards and we have taken all necessary steps to ensure that our products comply with applicable safety standards.
Although Prop 65 is a California law, we distribute our products nationwide even internationally. To ensure full compliance and maintain consistent packaging, we place the Proposition 65 warning on our products regardless of where they are sold.
Proposition 65 is enforced by the State of California. The state maintains the official list of chemicals and regulations to protect drinking water and inform the public.
