English Breakfast Tea (Camellia sinensis) is a robust, fully oxidized black tea blend designed for high thermal extraction. Cut sifted style maximizes surface area to produce a coppery, full-bodied liquor rich in theaflavins and caffeine.
Preparation & Uses
Classification: Soluble Infusion (High-Temp Aqueous Extraction).
Brewing Methods
- Measure: Place 1 teaspoon (2g) of leaves in an infuser.
- Heat: Bring water to a Rolling Boil (212°F). Note: Unlike green tea, black tea requires full boiling temperature to extract the heavy tannins and theaflavins.
- Pour & Steep: Pour 8 ounces of water over leaves. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
- 3 mins: Brighter, lighter body.
- 5 mins: Strong, malty, high astringency (best for milk).
- Iced Tea (Flash Chill): Use 2 tsp per 8 oz (Double Strength). Steep 5 minutes. Strain and pour immediately over ice to dilute to drinking strength.
